Abstract Expressionism has echoed throughout my work with its architecture of marks and gestural strokes that becomes the soul of the painting’s surface. Yet there is an undeniable desire to reach beyond pure abstraction and the nonrepresentational, to offer disconnected fragments of a representational, but unstructured language. I’m influenced by the vast natural resource of visual stimulation surrounding my Ontario studio. Consciously or unconsciously, this environment imposes an overwhelming demand on both the ability to look and the capacity to see.
